Support Groups

Hoag Cancer Center support groups provide mutual support and information for cancer patients and their families. Facilitated by licensed social workers, oncology nurses and therapists, discussion is geared to the issues that cancer patients and their support network face from day to day. There is no charge for the following groups, which meet regularly at Hoag Cancer Center.

Brain Tumor Support Group – For adults with brain tumors and their families, designed to assist in the understanding of and coping with brain tumors. The group meets the first and third Thursday of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Auditorium.

Breast Cancer Support Group – These groups are designed to provide mutual support for coping with the day-to-day issues of treatment and rehabilitation.

Day Group: Meets every Tuesday from 12-2 p.m. in the Hoag Cancer Center Auditorium

Evening Group: Fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A. This group is an educational series to assist in coping with the after effects of diagnosis and treatment.

Family and Friends General Cancer Support Group – This support group provides a unique forum in which patients are able to share concerns and learn more about cancer and its treatment. Designed for cancer patients and their support persons, this group focuses on sharing information and mutual support. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.

Gastrointestinal Cancer Education and Support – The GI Cancer Support Group provides a unique forum in which patients are able to share concerns, and learn more about colon cancer and its treatment. The group meets once a month and is open to newly diagnosed patients, patients undergoing active treatment and patients who have completed treatment. The group , features educational presentations alternating with open discussions.

The group meets the third Monday of each month from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A

Lung Cancer Support Group – Day and evening meetings are designed to meet the educational and emotional needs of lung cancer patients and their families.

Day Group: Meets the fourth Thursday of each month from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A

Evening Groups: Meets the second Wednesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A

Prostate Cancer Education and Support Program – An educational and supportive forum for men facing prostate cancer and their families, which promotes understanding of the diagnosis and treatment options through presentations, written materials and videos. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Auditorium.

Young Women’s Cancer Support Group – This group addresses the challenges that are unique to young women who have been diagnosed with cancer. The group meetings provide a place for young women to gather and help one another through their journey. The group meets the third Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.

Bereavement Support Group – Bereavement support for adults who have lost a loved one to cancer. The group meets the every Thursday of each month from 5:30-7 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.

In addition to the above support groups, Hoag offers free cancer education programs to support patients in their quest for knowledge.
