Support Groups
Hoag Cancer Center support groups provide mutual support and information for cancer patients and their families. Facilitated by licensed clinical social workers and oncology nurses. Discussion is focused on current issues faced by cancer patients and their support network. There is no charge for the following groups.

Breast Cancer Support Group – These groups are designed to provide mutual support for coping with the day-to-day issues of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
Day Group:
The group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month from 12:30-2:00 p.m. in the Hoag Cancer Center Auditorium
Evening Group:
The group meets the Fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.
Breast Cancer 101:
A 6 week educational program for women newly diagnosed with Breast cancer and those seeking information. This educational series assists in coping with the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Held in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A (Please call for scheduled dates).
Family and Friends General Cancer Support Group – is designed for those who are providing support to a cancer patient. The group focuses on the sharing of information and mutual support. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.
Gastrointestinal Cancer Education and Support – The GI Cancer Support Group provides a unique forum in which patients are able to share concerns, and learn more about colon cancer and its treatment. The group is open to newly diagnosed patients, patients undergoing active treatment and patients who have completed treatment. The group features educational presentations alternating with open discussions. The group meets the fourth Monday of each month from 12:30-2:00 pm in the Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.
Gynecological Cancer Support Group – Women Helping Women - This bi-monthly group focuses on the unique concerns faced by women with gynecologic cancers. The group meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 10:00-11:30am in the Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.
Lung Cancer Support Group – Day and evening meetings are designed to meet the educational and emotional needs of lung cancer patients and their families.
Day Group:
Meets the fourth Thursday of each month from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A
Evening Groups:
Meets the second Wednesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A
Prostate Cancer Education and Support Program – Educational and supportive forums for men facing prostate cancer and their families, which promotes understanding of the diagnosis and treatment options through presentations and facilitated discussion.
Man to Man: Prostate Cancer Education and Support Group: Offered to men facing prostate cancer and their families, a forum to educate and connect through presentations and facilitated discussions. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8:00pm in the Hoag Cancer Center Auditorium.
Prostate Cancer Networking Group: An informal gathering and opportunity to meet others facing a diagnosis of prostate cancer to interact and share experiences of treatment and beyond. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month from 5:30-6:30 pm in Café Hoag, adjacent to the Cancer Center lobby.
Prostate Cancer Discussion Group: A special group for patients with prostate cancer who are undergoing a complex, multi-modality treatment plan. Registration is required for this group. Bereavement Support Group – Bereavement support for adults who have lost a loved one to cancer. The group meets the every Thursday of each month from 5:30-7 p.m. in Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.
In addition to the above support groups, Hoag offers free cancer education programs to support patients in their quest for knowledge.
