Employee Health & Safety
Hoag strives to provide a safe and healthful working environment for employees. Employee Health Services (EHS) administers several programs, briefly described here:
Infection Control
The Infection Control Program is designed to curb the spread of communicable diseases through testing and immunization. The following services are available through Employee Health at no charge for employees:
- TB skin testing/screening
- Hepatitis B immunization
- Chickenpox testing
- Rubella (German Measles)
- Rubeola (measles) testing and immunization
- Tetanus immunization
- Influenza vaccine
- Needle stick/blood and badyfluid exposure follow-up
- Infectious exposure follow-up
Employee Health Files
All employee health-related and injury records are maintained in Emplyee Health as confidential documents. You may request copies of your records by completing a Release of Information form.
Annual Health Assessment
Each employee is required to be screened for TB at least annually. A reminder will be sent to you along with a Health Questionaire. Your Annual Assessment includes:
- TB skin testing / screening
- Review of Health Questionnaire
- Optional: Blood pressure, weight and Lab work (Complete Blood Count)
- Appointments are to be scheduled through Employee Health
Work Related Injuries / Illnesses
- If you incur a work-related injury or illness, you must:
- Notify your supervisor
- Notify Employee Health Services
- Complete an Employee Injury and Incident Investigation Report
- Employee Health Services will provide timely treatment and follow-up in compliance with the California Workers' Compensation Regulations.
Non-work Related Injuries Or Illnesses
Screening and first aid are available for minor injuries, blood pressure monitoring and throat cultures.
Safety Management Program
Employees are responsible for following safe working procedures, exercising good judgment in performing duties, and reporting unsafe conditions and/or acts to their supervisor.
Safety Committee
Hoag's Safety Committee, which includes representatives from administration, clinical, and support services, meet regularly to review and evaluate the safety management program. Chaired by the Safety Officer, the committe continually monitors the effectiveness of the program. Reports are provided to the Board of Directors, Department managers, Infection Control, Risk Management, and Quality Improvement.
Your safety ideas can be submitted to the Safety Suggestion Box, located outside the cafeteria, or the Safety Officer (Ext. 2030)
