Program Description:
This is a eight-week program with a healthy mixture of classroom and preceptor experience to support nursing graduates as they transition into the RN role.
Specific Areas of Emphasis Include:
- All required content from new-hire orientation, with extra time for "hands-on" practice
- Skin care module presented by Enterostomal Therapy nurses
- Diabetes management module presented by diabetes educators
- Urgent/emergent care and Code Blue practice
- Sedation/Airway Management
- IV start process using safety products
- Phlebotomy
- Extra time with IV Abbott Plum Pump and Baxter PCA Pumps
- Tracheostomy Management
- Order entry computer training and open electronic charting for bedside documentation
- Tips on unit routines and time management
- Simulated Patient Assessment Skill Lab
- Pain assessment and patient education
- Central Lines and Implanted Vascular Access devices
- Blood gas interpretation and pulse oximetry
- Module on delegating to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel
- Beginning week two, assigned time on unit with designated experienced preceptor
- Progressive patient assignments
- Weekly feedback sessions with education staff
- Medical library resource tour
