Delivering Comprehensive Care for Neurological Disorders

The number of Americans affected by neurological disorders is steadily increasing. And as Orange County continues to be faced with an aging population, significant focus must be placed on diagnosing, managing and treating these conditions.

Hoag Hospital has committed to major growth in the clinical neurosciences, reorganizing its neuroscience programs into a comprehensive center in order to streamline patient care and further develop these specialties. Earlier this spring, the hospital recognized this center, Hoag Neurosciences Center, as its fifth center of excellence.

Hoag Neurosciences Center

Hoag is now Orange County’s only non-academic medical center with a dedicated neuroscience center, offering prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment for stroke, brain tumors, dementia, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and more.

With significant expertise in these specialties, Hoag’s neuroscience programs have already received high acclaim. Hoag’s brain tumor program is the largest in Orange County and second largest in Southern California. Hoag has the largest stereotactic program in Orange County and among the top volume programs in the western United States. And Hoag’s stroke program ranks among the top ten percent in the nation (Healthgrades 2007) and has been recognized as a recipient of the American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines Performance Achievement Award.

Physician Expertise

Hoag Neurosciences Center brings together a multidisciplinary team of medical experts, who subspecialize in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neurovascular telemetry, Gamma Knife, epilepsy, neuro radiation oncology, neuro rehabilitation and neuro psychology.

And with dedicated interventional neuroradiologists, Hoag offers leading-edge interventional procedures including: coiling of ruptured aneurysms; intracranial embolization (tumors, vascular malformations); intracranial/extracranial carotid, vertebral artery stenting; and acute stroke intervention. Additionally, Hoag is Orange County’s only community hospital with dedicated neuro hospitalists, who are available to immediately respond to neurological emergencies.

This integrated, sub-specialized team of neuroscientists is actively involved in research to discover new therapies, drugs and other medical advancements to better the lives of patients suffering from neurological conditions.

Seamless Integration of Services

The expertise in neurological care provided by Hoag has advanced significantly in recent years. Patients with chronic conditions such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease have the convenience of receiving unsurpassed care right in their own community. And further providing convenient services for patients, the new Hoag Neurosciences Center brings comprehensive care for these neurological conditions under one roof. As development of Hoag’s campus progresses, Hoag Neurosciences Center will be housed in a new building on the hospital’s lower campus, with all services provided in this central location.

Incorporating the latest diagnostic technologies, treatment modalities and integration of neuroscience specialists, Hoag Neurosciences Center will achieve a seamless and personalized service for this growing patient population.
