Hoag Neurosciences Center declared a Center of Excellence
Hoag Neurosciences Center was recently recognized as Hoag Hospital’s fifth Center of Excellence, joining the ranks of Hoag Cancer Center, Hoag Heart and Vascular Institute, Hoag Orthopedic Services and Hoag Women’s Health Services.
Having earned an achievement that was many years in the making, the programs that comprise the Neurosciences Center have already been highly acclaimed. And with the development of the Institute, they will now be organized into a comprehensive center to provide convenient streamlined access to care for patients.
The comprehensive programs offered by Hoag Neurosciences Center include prevention and treatment of stroke, dementia, epilepsy, sleep disorders, Parkinson’s disease, neuroradiology and brain tumors, among other conditions.
“As the Orange County population continues to grow both in age and in number, the need for many of these specialized neuro health care services will continue to escalate,” explains Robert Braithwaite, senior vice president, hospital services. “With the Neurosciences Center, Hoag is well prepared to meet those needs.”
In fact, the level of neurological care provided by Hoag has dramatically advanced in recent years. Patients with chronic conditions such as epilepsy have the convenience of receiving unsurpassed care right here in their own community. And those with more urgent conditions, such as stroke, can be reassured in knowing the closest hospital, Hoag, is also where they will receive the highest quality of care.
The Neurosciences Center incorporates the latest in advanced technology, including the new Gamma Knife 4C, a device that targets tumors and vascular malformations with a focused dose of radiation; and the 3 Tesla Magna, a new MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) technology used for neurological disorders such as aneurysms and brain tumors.
As development of the hospital’s expansion plan continues, Hoag Neurosciences Center will be housed in a new building on the lower area of the campus – with all of the comprehensive neuro services provided streamlined into one central location.
“In the past, patients often had to travel between several physicians’ offices for different services,” says Braithwaite. “However, the new Institute will provide a comprehensive suite of programs all in one convenient location, with dedicated care coordinators for each program to guide patients along the way.”
