H1N1 Vaccine Update

Hoag Hospital is not providing H1N1 vaccine to the general public. If you are interested in a vaccine, please contact your personal physician or visit one of the clinics throughout the county. For more information, please call the Orange County Influenza Hotline at 800-564-8448 or go to www.ochealthinfo.com.

Reduce the Risk of Infection

Hoag Hospital’s first priority is the safety of patients, staff and visitors. Hoag Hospital is following all guidelines and recommendations from the California Department of Public Health for monitoring and prevention and suggests if you have symptoms such as a fever, cough or sore throat that you stay home and contact your primary care physician. If you have any of these symptoms, stay home, and please do not visit family or friends at the hospital.

If you have any flu symptoms and must come to the hospital for treatment or services:
  • Wear one of the masks provided at the entrances and limit your time in the hospital to only the essential areas required.
  • If you have a fever, sore throat and/or cough, you are strongly advised not to visit a patient. Show your support with a phone call or stay up-to-date through CarePages.

Influenza Testing

Based on what we know, most people will not require treatment or hospitalization for H1N1 influenza, however you should discuss your specific situation with your personal physician.

Testing for Influenza is not currently recommended for the general public. Do not come to the hospital for Influenza testing, only those patients sick enough to be admitted to the hospital will be tested. For more detailed information, please go to the Center for Disease Control website at www.cdc.gov or call Orange County Healthcare Agency at 800-564-8448.

Prevention is Key:

  • Get vaccinated.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw the tissue in the trash after use.
  • Stay home when you are sick and remain at home until at least 24 hours after you are free of fever.
