Hoag Blood Donor Services

Basic requirements to donate blood:

  • You must weigh at least 110 pounds.
  • You must be at least 17 years of age.
  • You must be in good health.
  • Hoag Hospital’s Blood Donor Center provides blood supply for the entire hospital — that’s nearly 2,000 inpatients per month that could potentially need blood. Donors can give for a specific friend or family member, for an upcoming surgery for themselves, or for general hospital use.

Due to an ongoing shortage of donations, the majority of Hoag’s blood supply is brought in from outside sources. The hospital receives four to five donations per day that are not designated for use by a friend or family member of the donor. However, just one person can require up to 25 times more blood! That leaves very little supply for the upwards of 35 patients that come into the hospital each day needing blood. Therefore, your donation is critically needed.

The Blood Donor Center is located on the second floor of the Patty and George Hoag Cancer Center on the lower campus of Hoag Hospital, off Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach.

To make an appointment to donate, please call 949/764-5621.
