Auxiliary History
The Auxiliary of Hoag Hospital was founded the same year the hospital opened in 1952 and has been its most steadfast source of community volunteer support. Auxilians (adults and juniors/candystripers) include more than 850 volunteers who give approximately 90,000 hours of loyal and caring service each year to Hoag's patients, visitors, physicians and staff. They are an integral part of the operations of the hospital as they staff more than 50 areas, such as the Gift Box, transport, waiting rooms, Hoag Cancer Center, patient visitation, and the book, flower and gift carts that visit patient rooms.
Auxiliary members also provide clerical support to Hoag Hospital by assisting with mailings, fund-raising activities and special events. Their contributions make a significant difference.
With proceeds from the Gift Box, Hunter's Auctions, Nightingale's Baby Photos, stamp machines, and Junior Auxiliary/candystriper fund-raisers, the Auxiliary has raised more than $5 million since 1952 for hospital equipment and projects.
