Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT)
The maintenance of wakefulness test is a daytime procedure that quantifies wake tendency by measuring the ability to remain awake during sleep-inducing circumstances. MWT’s are specifically helpful in determining wakefulness in such occupations as truck drivers, airline pilots, and bus drivers. Testing will be performed only when ordered specifically by your physician. To receive more information on MWT testing, please contact the Sleep Center at (949) 764-8070.
CPAP Mask Fitting Service
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Mask Fitting appointments are scheduled for patients experiencing problems with their CPAP mask or machine. Appointments are scheduled in the Sleep Disorders Center and are free of charge. They are conducted by trained sleep technologists who can help troubleshoot problems that may arise from using a CPAP machine. Some other problems may include mask discomfort or style of the mask, anxiety in using the CPAP machine, and understanding the CPAP machine and learning how to take care of it. All of these troubles can be overcome by spending 15-20 minutes in a one-on-one appointment with a trained technologist.
AWAKE Patient Support Group
Alert, Well, And Keeping Energetic (A.W.A.K.E.) is a network of approximately 200 mutual-help support groups throughout the United States for persons affected by sleep apnea. The Network, founded in 1988, is an integral part of the American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) that assists people with apnea, their families, and the healthcare community concerned with sleep apnea. People can share their experiences and learn how other sleep apnea suffers cope with this sleep disorder. Hoag Sleep Disorders Center is currently scheduling AWAKE support group classes. Please contact the sleep center at 949/764-8070 to register. Registration is required.
